The real western dining experience, a chuckwagon dinner. One should not miss out on the opportunity to make a stop at one of the valley’s chuckwagons.
Bar-J Chuckwagon
Located on the western edge of the valley about 7 miles from the town of Jackson and 5 miles from Teton Village. The gates open at 5:30p.m. with the dinner bell ringing at 7:00p.m. Plan on spending a short amount of time exploring their intimate western village before dinner. Following dinner the Bar J Wranglers take the stage. This western music and comedy show is unique and truly Jackson Hole. The Bar J Wranglers deliver some of the best harmony, humor and music in the west. Performing to some 700 people per night, this is some great family entertainment.
The combination of the food and traditional western entertainment are sure to make a visit to the BAR-J a memorable one. There is a large performance/dining hall on site that seats several hundred, so there is plenty of space and no need to worry about the weather.
Dinner choices include Barbecue Beef, Chicken, the Chicken and Barbecue Beef Combo, Pork Rib, or Rib Eye Steak.
All meals include: Foil Wrapped Potatoes, Bar-J Beans, Homemade Biscuits with Butter and Jelly, Chunky Applesauce, Old Fashioned Spice Cake, Real Ranch Coffee or Tenderfoot Lemonade.
Bar T-5 Chuckwagon
Located on the eastern edge of the Town of Jackson about 5 minutes from the town square. Providing some true western adventure, climb aboard a covered wagon and enjoy the ride to the dining area located in Cache Creek Canyon. Started in 1973, these folks have plenty of experience in providing a good time.
The Bar-T-5 has a cowboy music and comedy show that the whole family can enjoy provided by the “Spirit of the Bar-T-5 Band”. Singing songs reckoning back to the days of the Old West combined with some side splitting cowboy humor will keep anyone laughing. Great for all ages!
Dinner choices include Mouth-Watering Roast Beef, Tender Dutch Oven Barbecued Chicken, Corn on the Cob, Moms special recipe of Oven Baked Beans, Fresh Green Salad, Rolls, Coffee, Lemonade and Brownies are for desert.
The Bar-T-5 has two seatings nightly Monday thru Saturday and are closed on Sundays.
From Mid-May thru Late August show times are at 5:00p.m. & 6:30p.m.
From Late August thru Late September show time are at 4:30p.m. & 6:00p.m.
They prefer that all parties arrive at least 15-20 minutes prior to showtime. This allows time to get everyone checked in and properly loaded into the wagons.
Dornan’s Chuckwagon
Dornan’s is a small village providing services and shops located at the South entrance to Grand Teton National Park, about 12 miles north of the town of Jackson. Providing the chuckwagon or cowboy style meal in a covered but open air environment let you capture the feel of dining trailside while immersed in nature. Tepees are also on site to provide cover on inclement days and to give visitors a look at these unique structures. Sitting directly on the banks of the Snake River with the majestic peaks of the Tetons in the background, there are few places to eat in the valley with such dramatic views. Since their opening in 1948, Dornan’s has had a long standing tradition with travelers heading to and from the National Parks. There is no live entertainment show as with the other chuckwagons, Dornan’s is purely the chuckwagon dining experience.
The Chuckwagon is known for its hearty breakfast featuring sourdough pancakes, served from 7am to 11am.
Lunch features soups, salads and sandwiches on homemade buns, served from 12pm to 3pm.
The all-you-can-eat western style dinner is cooked in cast iron Dutch ovens and accompanied by a salad bar, served from 5pm to 8pm. Enjoy a beer or glass of wine from the bar.
