Whitewater rafting Jackson Hole takes one through the Snake River Canyon. This section of the Snake River is roughly 8 miles long and runs class III through most of the season. The flows are generally higher in the early spring, peaking in late May to Early June providing a fun and exciting river experience. Flows generally stay consistent until later in the summer. To spice up the action go on an 8-man raft, everybody paddles. The trip times will vary slightly from company to company, and trips depart at almost all hours of the day. The total time to allow for this is about 3.5 to 4 hours.
Unlike the scenic float trips, there is only one section of the river that is considered to be whitewater, and all companies will be floating this same section. As previously mentioned, trip times will vary slightly throughout the day from company to company. Whitewater rafting is a very popular activity here in the Hole. Get out there and take it to the Snake for some summer fun.

Inflatable kayaks, called Duckies, are an alternative to the raft for running the whitewater. These kayaks can hold one or two people, are quite safe and remarkably fun. Duckies put you right on the water for some up close and personal whitewater action. Duckies are especially great for when the flows on the Snake River are low in the later summer when larger rafts sometimes make the river seem too tame for the adrenalin junkie.
Combination Scenic/Whitewater Tours
As the name implies, these tours are a combination of a scenic float and the whitewater section of the river. The section of your trip for the scenic float may vary from outfitter to outfitter. Some of the companies will float a scenic section of the river, take you back to the boathouse and where you eat and then head out for the whitewater section of the river. This variable does allow for you to float alternative sections of the river. Other outfitters will float the scenic section of the river, pull over and have lunch riverside, then gear up and float directly down river through the whitewater section, which provides for a more seamless experience. The scenic float is always done prior to running the whitewater section of the river, the scenic sections are located upriver from the whitewater portion of the river.
