Jackson Hole Opening Day 2018

Posted on: November 18th, 2018 by thcAdmin No Comments

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is opening on November 26th. The resort has been working hard to get it done! We have had some great early season snowfall.

Late October and early November have seen some decent storm cycles. At elevation there is a good amount of snow. The backcountry has been providing nice turns and Grand Targhee Resort opened November 16th, providing some nice coverage and decent early season skin conditions.

jackson hole mountain resort 11-18-18

With cold temperature the mountain resort has been able to blow ample amounts of snow to supplement the natural snowfall. Expanded snowmaking at the resort should enable the resort to provide far more terrain on opening day than is often available.

Snow King Mountain should be able to come on line as planned in the beginning of December.

Grand Targhee Opening Day 2018

Posted on: November 2nd, 2018 by thcAdmin No Comments

November 16, 2018

Grand Targhee will be opening this weekend! Officially kicking off lift served skiing in the Jackson area, thank you Targhee. Snow has been light at upper elevations so far this season. We are anticipating multiple days of rain/snow over the next week. It looks like the storm system passing through the Tetons over this coming week should cage things up considerably. Resort preparations seem to be going well. It should be a fabulous opening day!!

Remember, early season conditions will exist. Be careful out there.

Moulton Barn

Posted on: May 21st, 2018 by thcAdmin No Comments

Thomas Alma Moulton built this barn to shelter his horses against the harsh winters of Western Wyoming and Jackson Hole. Thomas had no idea that he was building a future landmark. Carving out a living on this beautiful piece of land was not easy. The Moulton family worked together along with their neighbors to create what is now known as Mormon Row.

The structure was begun in 1913 and took many years to be in its current form.  First the structure was built as a square box, and later the peak and a lean-to side was added.  Eventually, more room was needed necessitating addition of the other lean-to side.  This was a functional working barn.  It was never intended to be the most photographed barn in America.

Two brothers, Thomas, John filed on their 160 acre homesteads in of 1907.  Wallace, the third brother, filed one year later.First a small cabin was built to live in during the summer months while working the land and constructing the barn.  Alma, Lucile and baby Clark moved over from Idaho into the homestead in 1912. The cabin was little more than four walls with a dirt floor. The family continued to work the ranch until 1961.
