Teton County Fair

July 21-30, 2017

The Teton County Fair signals the heart of Summer in Jackson Hole. The fair grounds will be humming with activity all week long making this possibly the most entertaining time to visit in Summer. Visitors to area will find all the usual fair delights; rides, 4-H displays, livestock, petting zoo, nightly entertainment. The nightly events including the rodeo, live music, pig wrestling, figure 8 races and more. Parking at the fairgrounds is $10.

There is a food court located inside the main fair grounds with all of your usual delights. I recommend not missing out on some local fixin’s over by the events tent. Located on Snow King Ave., the tent hosts talent shows etc. throughout the day, which provides some entertainment while dining. You will find a large grassy area with some picnic tables located near the “Big Top” events tent.

My favorite is the philly cheese steaks or cheeseburgers at the Rocky Mountain Ministries food booth.

A collection of rides and games can be found around the fair’s “midway” that are sure to thrill children and adults.

Figure 8 Races seem to be a big hit with locals and visitors. In years past the Demolition Derby was the Sunday night featured event. Soon after the introduction of of the Figure 8’s, it replaced the Derby.

This event combines the smash and crash of a derby with a little finese. Cars race around a figure 8 track where “rubbin’ is racin’!” A fireworks display concludes the fair on Sunday evening. Come on out and enjoy our fair!

Targhee Fest 2017

Head over Teton Pass to Grand Targhee for a weekend of music. The annual Targhee Fest boasts a strong line-up of quality musicians. Nestled high into the Tetons, Grand Targhee provides an intimate setting for music festivals. During the day you can hike, bike, frisbee golf or just laze around and wallow in the beauty of your surroundings. Music generally starts mid-day.

This years acts will include: Galactic, Suzanne Vega, Micheal Franti, Leftover Salmon, North Mississippi Osborne, The Record Company, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, The New Mastersounds, The Motet and Assembly of Dust.

Targhee Fest

July 4th 2017 will be a fun filled day in Jackson Hole, actually the 2nd, 3rd & 4th look pretty good. There is a lot to keep you busy from sun up to sun down. Be prepared for the crowds. There tends to be more vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic than any other day in the valley. It is good to find a nice parking spot, try the public parking garage located on Millward, then set out by foot or by bike. There will be some congestion getting out of and around town after the fireworks display.

5:30PM JacksonHoleLive!Presented at the Snow King Ball Field. There are food vendors, a kids zone, and live music. The large grassy area provides an ideal venue for taking in a beautiful Summer evening under the Tetons.

July 3:

July 4:

7AM to 10:30AM Street Breakfast, on Center St, by the Town Square.

10:30AM Fourth of July Parade. The annual parade begins on Snow King Avenue from the Rodeo Grounds to Glenwood, continues on Broadway, and ends on Willow Street.

2PM to 10:30PM Concessions, family activities, and live entertainment. This a fabulous community event. The Grand Teton Music festival will be broadcast live from Walk Festival Hall during the show on a Jumbotron video screen at 6pm.

5:30PM Live music at the Snow King Ballfield prior to the fireworks. Food and Beverages will be available.

6PM Watch the shootout on the town square. If you haven’t seen it, this nightly event is not to be missed.

8PM Check out the rodeo at the fairgrounds.

10PM Fireworks!!! Held at the base of Snow King Mountain. This annual event is put on by the Jaycees, and packs quite a punch. This will be the final year that the Jaycees will be hosting the fireworks, as membership has dwindled.

Teton Village July 3rd and 4th

Teton Village will be celebrating “Red, White and 2!” The village will be hosting two nights of fireworks and fourth of July celebrations on July 3rd and 4th.

July 3rd:Spend your night taking some great music in an intimate venue. Music starts at 6:00pm followed by the only fireworks show in the area at 10:00PM.

July 4th: The music starts up with the Jazz Foundation of JH at 4:00 PM in the Village Commons. Grand Teton Music Festivals Music in the Hole simulcast from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, followed by Calle Mambo, bringing a high-energy, Latin and Salsa music to the stage. Another round of fireworks follow, starting at 10:00 PM. Food & Beverage Vendors will be on site and picnics are welcome. Please leave your pets at home.

12th Annual Crawfish Boil

The Jackson Hole Crawfish Boil is a celebration of Louisiana tradition in the heart of the Tetons. Great music, great food, and even better people. This newer “Jackson Hole Tradition” is a favorite for many locals, especially our Southern born. There will be live music starting at 5:30pm, boiled crawfish with corn & potatoes, the best red beans-n-rice in the West provided by Sweetwater Restaurant. There will be yard games galore! Bring your lawn chairs, picnic blankets, and get ready to have one of the best days of the Summer with us! Celebrate Father’s Day in style!

Music will be by the The New Orleans Suspects with opening act Boondocks

Please no dogs.

By far one of the most entertaining and laid back events to hit the Hole. Locals thoroughly enjoy this day of all ages entertainment. I look forward to this day each year, the food is delicious and the music line-up tends to be quite good. The original version started out being hosted at Cutty’s Bar and Grill, located across from Alberstons. After a number of years the Boil outgrew its digs and had to relocate to the Snow King Ballpark. The event is co-hosted with JacksonHoleLive!

Doors Open at 4:30pm with music beginning around 5:30pm.

Old West Days 2017

The Memorial Day Weekend in Jackson Hole Has a lot to offer. A full schedule of events keeps the town buzzing with activity. This year Jackson Hole with be celebrating the 35th Anniversary of “Old West Days.”

The Mountain Man Rendevous and Antler Rendevous are ongoing throughout the weekend at the Teton County Fairgrounds.

Don’t miss parade downtown on Saturday morning at 10am. There is a Brew Fest held on the town square on Saturday as well, which provides a good opportunity to sample some locally crafted beers.

Il Idomeneo on April 13, 2017……..7PM

The Grand Teton Music Festival and the Center of Wonder in conjunction with the Center for the Arts host a number of performances from the Metroplitan Opera in NY. The Met: Live in HD series has been going for over eight seasons.

The season concludes on April 13th with Idomeneo. The series has gained tremendous popularity and has currently expanded to reach thousands of theaters in countries around the world.

The broadcasts take place at the Center for the Arts in downtown Jackson.

The current season will wrap up in April with Madama Butterfly. The mid-April showing of Idomeneo would be a perfect activity to get you out and about during Jackson’s “off-season.”

Jackson Hole Rendevous 2017

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort will be celebrating the season with a weekend of events with the Jackson Hole Rendevous Fest. Started over 10 years ago, this event has slowly gained momentum and now encompasses an entire weekend. Look for more to be added. Fireworks will follow the concerts.

Zac Brown Band will once again grace the stage in Teton Village on Saturday night. Crowd size estimates are in the area of 15-20,000 people, look out! It will be a busy weekend in town. Utilize public transportation and taxi services, the police will be out in force. Use your head, be wise and alert, stay out of trouble and don’t do anything stupid!

Jackson Hole Cutter Races 2017

2017 Races Have Been Cancelled

An event not to miss out on is the annual Shriner’s Club Jackson Hole Cutter Races on the 18th and 19th. The cutter races raise funds for Shriner’s Hospitals. The cutter races tend to be quite lively with a festive party like vibe. Local race fans look forward to this event each Winter, entrance is $15/person.

Drivers pilot a horse drawn chariot down a track of snow. The speeds are exhilarating. This event is well worth checking out. Dress warmly, you can bring your own food and beverages. Event Information.

New Years Eve Jackson Hole 2016

In Jackson Hole for the New Year? New Year’s Eve in the Hole can certainly be a fun one. Events start early with with torchlighht parades in Teton Village and in the Town of Jackson. Fireworks follow. Restaurants throughout the valley are heavily booked, reservations well in advance are strongly recommended. Live music is on many agendas and there are some good options out there. Jackson may not be as crazy as some other ski towns, but it is sure to create some wild memories. Be safe and enjoy your New Year! Take advantage of Taxis and/or Pubic Bus Service

Glow Worm Parade for Kids
Time: 5:30pm, kids meet at 4:50pm
Location: Teton Village, Teewinot Lift

This New Years’ tradition substitutes glow sticks for torch lights. Kids up to 14 years old who are comfortable skiing Teewinot, are welcome to participate. Meet at the Kids Ranch at 4:50, Parade on Teewinot Run at 5:30pm. Come dressed with skis and boots (no poles please). Younger kids will do a shorter parade before the older kids. Participation is free and sign up is not required. Parents are not required to accompany skiers. Call 307-739-2788 for more information.

Torch Light Parade at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort
Time: 6pm

The traditional torchlight parade follows the glow worm parade and is on the Apres Vous side of the mountain resort. At the conclusion there will be a fireworks display in the base area of Teton Village.

An authentic torch light parade followed up by a fireworks display. A New Year’s Eve tradition in many ski towns, Jackson does it up too! This annual event kicks off the new year with a bang and is just as much fun to watch as it is to ski down. Expert skiers (who are comfortable skiing steep terrain in the dark carrying fire) are invited to participate in the parade. Everyone is invited to enjoy the spectacle!

Gondi Gala Event
Time: 9pm – 1pm
Location: Couloir Restaurant

Join us on New Year’s Eve at the top of the gondola. The Couloir Restaurant plays host to Jackson’s Whiskey Mornin’ as they usher in the new year. The fun starts at 9:00pm. There is a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. The gondola will begin dowloading at the end of the party at 1:00am. Please dress warmly for the gondola ride. There is a coat check available. This is a high demand ticket, so get them early if you wish to attend. Event Link.

King Tubes Open

The tube tracks are in and are primed for sliding. King Tubes tends to be one of the more popular family attractions during the winter evenings. During Holiday times the tubing hill tends to be generally busy throughout the day, Enjoy!!

Jackson Hole Opening 2016

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is opening on December 1st. The resort has been working hard to get it done! They were originally shooting for November 24th.

Mother Nature has been a bit stingy with the snow so far this season here in Teton County. October came on strong, with it being one of the wettest on record. November has warmed up considerably, with next to no precipitation.

As of November 16th, temperatures finally dropped, at least we can get snow from hoses. Consistently cold days have helped over the past week, with a little of the real deal falling as well.

Big thanks goes out to the snowmaking crew. Below is an image of the man made cloud enshrouding Apres Vous.

Matlacha Pass Aquatic Preserve

A recent trip had me traveling Florida’s Gulf Coast between Naples and Tampa. A stop in Cape Coral led to a paddle in the Matlacha Pass Aquatic Preserve. I able to access the water at a shop located along Pine Island Road called Gulf Coast Kayak. The staff was very helpful. You can put on the water just behind the shop for a $5 fee, and the signing of a waiver. There is a generous parking area adjacent to the shop.

Gulf Coast Kayak provides tours of the area, if you are looking for a guided experience. You can rent and go on your own. SUPs are also available. If you have your own boat you can access the parking via the $5 fee mentioned previously. The shop is well stocked with everything you might need. As I was getting ready to launch one of the guides gave me a quick overview of the area.

I set out from the shop heading North, skirting to the inside of the islands avoiding the choppier open water. Eventually, I ran across a creek with a decent current emerging from the mangroves ahead. Following this creek brings one to Thirsting Lake. I did not have the opportunity to paddle further on and access the creek feeding into the lake from the North East. I would suggest completing the paddle, it is not much further, once you look at a map. The current provides a gentle pace back to the open water, one hardly needs to paddle. The solitude drifting back through the mangrove was delightful. Plan on 3-4 hours to complete the tour.

Upon my return, I was able to talk to some folks who were just getting off of the water from their guided tour in a different area of the Preserve. They thoroughly enjoyed their tour and had nothing but compliments for their guide. It being late October, there were not a large amount of birds in the area, but we all saw a variety of species. I did have the opportunity to observe a number of Eagles harassing Osprey for their catch, some amazing flying was going on.

The Great Calusa Blueway paddling trail runs throughout the area as well. The trail system looks well worth exploring.

Shift Festival 2016

Held each October in the spectacular valley of Jackson Hole, SHIFT is an annual festival that celebrates the intersection of conservation with Nature (the natural environment), Culture (the built environment) and Adventure (outdoor recreation) across North America. The 2016 Festival will feature an in-depth exploration of the opportunities and challenges at the intersection of conservation and adventure, with a goal of leveraging outdoor recreation for conservation gains.

Fall Arts Festival 2016

The Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival has become one of the most widely recognized art events the Rockies. Each Fall thousands of art enthusiasts descend upon Jackson for this event. The 2016 Festival is scheduled to take place September 7th thru the 18th this year. The combination of art, music, and cuisine can overwhelm the senses.

Don’t miss out on this extravaganza! There are a number of events occurring throughout this 11 day period. Local galleries will have featured artists in-house throughout the festival. The Fall Arts Festival has grown into quite an event over the years. The complete 2016 Fall Arts Festival Program is online!

Wednesday the 7th the festival kicks off with the Western Design Conference Gala Event: Fashion and Jewelry Show.

Friday the 9th don’t miss the Palates and Paletes Gallery Walk, a local favorite. Palates and Palettes pairs local restaurants and caterers with galleries for an incredible social evening of fine cuisine, art and wine right downtown. A gallery walk like no other, downtown truly comes alive.

Sunday the 11th will feature the Taste of the Tetons. Valley chefs, restaurants, and caterers put their best culinary work on display for sampling. Each taste ticket is $1. Tastes generally range from two to four tickets. In addition to the open-air tasting fair, participants will enjoy “Pickin’ in the Park” live musical entertainment presented by the Howdy Pardners Ambassador Club. the 15th Annual Takin’ It to the Streets, a juried art fair featuring 40 local artists, and the Rotary Supper Club’s Wine Tasting and Silent Auction! Also on the 13th is the Takin’ it to the Streets event featuring 40 local artists.

Saturday the 17th the Quick Draw competition and auction is also quite popular, celebrating its 20th year as part of the annual Fall Arts Festival. The “Quick Draw” features nationally, regionally, and locally recognized artists who will demonstrate their skills at this unique alfresco event. One-of a-kind artwork will be auctioned off following the ninety minute creative process where spectators will watch artists paint and sculpt and create before your eyes. I truly enjoy this event, don’t miss out on this opportunity!

There is certainly no shortage of things to do while the Fall Arts Festival is in town!

Concerts on the Commons in Teton Village on Sunday evenings throughout the summer have developed into quite the night. Kicking off at 5pm and generally wrapping up around 9pm. The “Commons” area in Teton Village serves as an intimate outdoor concert venue at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The family friendly nature lends itself to a fun night out for the whole crew. There are a number of food and beverage options available. Many folks will make a picnic out of the event. Bring a blanket, stretch out on the lawn, and enjoy the show.

Shovels and Rope with opening act: Jalan Crossland

The JacksonHoleLive! concert series continues to provide quality entertainment to the community. Throughout the summer, live music is available at the Snow King Ballpark. The ballpark is located at the base of Snow King mountain. This all-ages evening concert series is a welcome addition to the music scene in Jackson. Coming to fruition after years of anticipation, hope, and hard work this has finally happened. Shows generally wrap up around dusk, and provide a welcome social event for visitors and locals. Dogs are not allowed on the ball field. A five block walk from the town square and convenient to the S.T.A.R.T. bus, makes it easy to get back and forth from the show. This year’s new title sponsor is the Snake River Brewery.

There are a number of local food vendors available with dishes that delight. There is a mix of beverages for all ages, ice cream and shaved ice. Don’t forget the lawn chair or blanket for lounging. A number of local acts will be opening for these bands throughout the Summer.

Bring the whole family out as this is an all-ages event. Please try to utilize public transportation or bicycles. Take advantage of Valet Parking for your bicycle, via Friends of Pathways. Come early and enjoy the community atmosphere. There is a large children’s play area, featuring a number of activities to keep them entertained.

Nicole Miller Pop-Up-Shop

Nicole Miller will be hosting a 4-Day Pop-Up Shop featuring brand new styles from the Fall 2016 collection!

With a degree in fine arts from The Rhode Island School of Design and a degree from l’ École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture Parisienne in Paris, Nicole Miller combines her art training with couture technique. This, along with her French heritage, has given her a unique style and vision. Her irreverent style of clothing has been worn by celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Joss Stone, Jennifer Aniston, Beyoncé, Blake Lively and Eva Longoria among others.

Philanthropically minded, Nicole supports primarily environmental causes such as Waterkeeper and Rocky Mountain Institute as well as many children’s charities. When not designing, Nicole is an avid skier, wake-boarder, traveller, and foodie. She lives with her husband Kim and their son Palmer in New York City, spending weekends in Sag Harbor.
