September 4 thru September 15, 2019

The Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival has become one of the most widely recognized art events the Rockies. Each Fall thousands of art enthusiasts descend upon Jackson for this event. The 2019 Festival is scheduled to take place September 5th thru the 16th this year. The combination of art, music, and cuisine can overwhelm the senses.

The featured artists this year are Kathryn Mapes Turner and John Simms.

Don’t miss out on this extravaganza! There are a number of events occurring throughout this 11 day period. Local galleries will have featured artists in-house throughout the festival. The Fall Arts Festival has grown into quite an event over the years. The complete 2019 Fall Arts Festival Program is online!

Wednesday the 6thh the festival kicks off with the Western Design Conference Gala Event: Fashion and Jewelry Show.

Friday the 6th don’t miss the Palates and Paletes Gallery Walk, a local favorite. Palates and Palettes pairs local restaurants and caterers with galleries for an incredible social evening of fine cuisine, art and wine right downtown. A gallery walk  like no other, downtown truly comes alive.

Palates and Palletes

Sunday the 9th will feature the Taste of the Tetons. Valley chefs, restaurants, and caterers put their best culinary work on display for sampling. Each taste ticket is $1. Tastes generally range from two to four tickets. In addition to the open-air tasting fair, participants will enjoy the Annual Takin’ It to the Streets, a juried art fair featuring 40 local artists, and the Rotary Supper Club’s Wine Tasting and Silent Auction! Also on the 10th is the Takin’ it to the Streets event featuring 40 local artists.

Saturday the 14th the Quick Draw competition and auction is also quite popular, celebrating its 21st year as part of the annual Fall Arts Festival. The “Quick Draw” features nationally, regionally, and locally recognized artists who will demonstrate their skills at this unique alfresco event. One-of a-kind artwork will be auctioned off following the ninety minute creative process where spectators will watch artists paint and sculpt and create before your eyes. I truly enjoy this event, don’t miss out on this opportunity!

Sunday the 15th enjoy Art Brunch Gallery Walk brunch and festive beverages at this closing-day celebration of the Fall Arts Festival! Brunch, Bloody Marys and spectacular art.

There is certainly no shortage of things to do while the Fall Arts Festival is in town!

Wednesday Evenings

The Jackson Hole People’s Market occurs on Wednesday evenings from 4pm to 7pm.  Running from May 29 thru September 18, 2019. The market occurs at the Phil Baux Park at the base of Snow King Mountain. The growth of the market has been enjoyable and a pleasure to watch. The market’s popularity simply reinforces the fact that Americans are finally getting back in touch with local produce.

The shift in awareness of healthy, locally produced produce and its positive effect on local economies is great to see. The new location at the base of Snow King allows great access for East Jacksonites. It is also located close to the rodeo grounds for those looking for a pre-rodeo fix.

There is generally some music and the Phil Baux Park has a giant jungle gym, 2 large bouldering features, and a few covered picnic areas right at the base of Snow King Mountain. There is a very relaxed mid-week atmosphere that the market seems to exude.

Old West Brewfest

May 26th, 2018 from 11am to 5pm

Like any mountain town with a few breweries, Jackson holds an annual “Brewfest.” The Old West Brewfest coincides with Old West Days, the schedule of events surrounding Memorial Day Weekend. The weekend is full of entertainment for all ages. Sample regional brews on the Town Square Saturday afternoon.

The peaks and glaciers that house the water for local brews are located just up the road in Grand Teton National Park. The event is located on the North side of the Town Square. A fun filled afternoon is sure to be had.  You can vote for your favorite beverages, prizes are awarded in the late afternoon.

Tulia Osteria & Bar

Posted on: March 22nd, 2018 by thcAdmin No Comments

When in Naples Florida, I would not miss the opportunity to dine at Tulia. There is a restaurant and bar side to the establishment. The bar side is a little tighter, but provides a slightly more casual experience. A small patio area fronts 5th Avenue. The dining scene in Naples is ever improving, this is my favorite. A comfortable atmosphere with a nice blend of folks. Reservations are highly recommended, days in advance when it is “in season.”

You can’t go wrong with the menu. Order a number of items to split between your group if you are having a hard time making up your mind. Taste as many dishes as possible. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive. Enjoy your time.

A favorite option of mine, is hitting their “in between” time on the way back from the beach. Order something for now and something for later. That way you can get your light late afternoon meal in coming off of the beach, and have some awesome food to reheat back at the casa. You can’t go wrong!!

Dinner and Elk Viewing

Posted on: March 1st, 2018 by thcAdmin No Comments

Combine a dinner sleigh ride with elk viewing at the Mill Iron Ranch. Taking a horse drawn sleigh ride to view the elk is awesome. A short sleigh ride which incorporates viewing of a resident elk herd, will be followed by a hearty Wyoming dinner.

After an active day nothing beats a great meal combined with some Western hospitality. There is a resident elk herd in the area of the ranch which can often be viewed during the sleigh ride. Always a unique dining experience.

Dinner sleigh rides are one of the more popular activities during the winter season, so book early. The intimacy of the ranch and the authentic Wyoming experience offered by the crew at the Mill Iron is unsurpassed. I recommend working this experience into your schedule while  visiting the area.

Head South of town and hop into a sleigh at the Mill Iron Ranch, if you would like further information and/or reservations, contact them directly at 888-808-6390 or 307-733-6390.

I look forward to this day each year, the food is delicious and the music line-up tends to be quite good. Pearl St. Market

Posted on: October 31st, 2015 by thcAdmin No Comments

The Pearl St. Market is a local favorite. Filling the void for a downtown market and offering deli, meat & fish, veggies, desserts, bakery items, prepared foods and more. On the corner of Pearl and Cache St., a block South of the Town Square (toward the Snow King ski area).

pearl st. market jackson hole, wy

Pearl St. Market’s philosophy is a simple one: offer the highest-quality, freshest, and most cutting-edge products that we can find in every category. This way you can rest assured knowing that as you bite into that new cheese from a small Italian mountain farm or serve up a Jackson Hole raised Mead Ranch Ribeye

The wide array of high quality meat,  fish and baked goods are what draw me there. The sandwiches are delicious, my favorite is the Hot Pastrami.

The Common Cafe & Tavern

Posted on: January 19th, 2015 by thcAdmin No Comments

When in or around Rumney, NH, I strongly recommend the Common Cafe/Tavern for a bite. I first frequented the Common Cafe in August of 2013. Having spent time in Rumney as a child I was familiar with the space as an antique store in the barn attached to a house on the Town’s Common. The rebirth of this old inn is inspiring. The food in phenomenal, and the hospitality equally as good. The proprietor, Brian, is an entertaining individual with a knack for conversation, and creating great food.

Some of the produce comes from the garden just outside in the yard. Dine on the outdoor deck, which overlooks the garden. Some of the food you may be consuming comes from that garden. This past Summer while back in NH, my cousin Nate took me back, this time for an evening bite at the Common. After flying in from WY, I was pleased to learn that they had begun dinner service. Upstairs from the Cafe a small bar and a few tables had been installed to create an intimate dining experience in the loft space of the barn. Wonderfully renovated in classic New England style. The pizza was just what my belly yearned for after being away from sea level for a year. There is just something about the dough you never quite achieve at altitude. There was a small selection of local brews on tap complimented by a variety of wines and liquors.

I have heard that they are also doing some live music a few nights a week, stop the the Common, you won’t be disappointed.

The Handle Bar

Posted on: December 24th, 2012 by thcAdmin No Comments

The Handle Bar at the Four Season Resort is now open. A guest appearance last night by Jim Belushi turned into a lively performance celebrating the opening of Jackson’s newest watering hole. During the set, his daughter joined in on a few songs for the crowd as well. Everybody enjoyed the evening and service seemed to be well on top of things.

Stop by and enjoy some food and drinks after a hard day on the slopes. The new space is pretty much wide open and feels quite spacious with its high ceilings. The main bar looks directly out onto the slopes and has a great feel. Adjacent to the bar is a slightly elevated dining area. The Jackson Hole Mountain Resort base area is right out the door. There are large dining tables located in the central area and booths along the far wall, creating a beer hall type of ambiance.

Don’t miss out on a tasty waffle on top of the world. Inside Corbett’s Cabin, at the top of the aerial tram at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village. The waffle is delicious, and the view can be amazing, served at over 10,000′ above sea level. Tram opens at 9am, line up early for first waffle. The views from the summit of the surrounding valley, on a clear day, are unsurpassed.

D.O.G.=Down on Glenwood

If you are on the go, give DOG a call at 733-4422 to pick up breakfast on the way to your destination. There is a small patio area to dine in. Always fast and filling, DOG is truly a local favorite. Located between Broadway and Pearl street, on Glenwood. They do have an additional, “westbank”, location in the Wilson gas station. Both locations are delicious, they also do lunch. Everyone loves the breakfast burrito, but I tend to lean towards the Kaiser with a little salsa.
