Jackson Hole Cutter Races 2017

2017 Races Have Been Cancelled

An event not to miss out on is the annual Shriner’s Club Jackson Hole Cutter Races on the 18th and 19th. The cutter races raise funds for Shriner’s Hospitals. The cutter races tend to be quite lively with a festive party like vibe. Local race fans look forward to this event each Winter, entrance is $15/person.

Drivers pilot a horse drawn chariot down a track of snow. The speeds are exhilarating. This event is well worth checking out. Dress warmly, you can bring your own food and beverages. Event Information.

New Years Eve Jackson Hole 2016

In Jackson Hole for the New Year? New Year’s Eve in the Hole can certainly be a fun one. Events start early with with torchlighht parades in Teton Village and in the Town of Jackson. Fireworks follow. Restaurants throughout the valley are heavily booked, reservations well in advance are strongly recommended. Live music is on many agendas and there are some good options out there. Jackson may not be as crazy as some other ski towns, but it is sure to create some wild memories. Be safe and enjoy your New Year! Take advantage of Taxis and/or Pubic Bus Service

Glow Worm Parade for Kids
Time: 5:30pm, kids meet at 4:50pm
Location: Teton Village, Teewinot Lift

This New Years’ tradition substitutes glow sticks for torch lights. Kids up to 14 years old who are comfortable skiing Teewinot, are welcome to participate. Meet at the Kids Ranch at 4:50, Parade on Teewinot Run at 5:30pm. Come dressed with skis and boots (no poles please). Younger kids will do a shorter parade before the older kids. Participation is free and sign up is not required. Parents are not required to accompany skiers. Call 307-739-2788 for more information.

Torch Light Parade at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort
Time: 6pm

The traditional torchlight parade follows the glow worm parade and is on the Apres Vous side of the mountain resort. At the conclusion there will be a fireworks display in the base area of Teton Village.

Torch Light Parade at Snow King Mountain
Time: 6pm
Location: Snow King Mountain

An authentic torch light parade followed up by a fireworks display. A New Year’s Eve tradition in many ski towns, Jackson does it up too! This annual event kicks off the new year with a bang and is just as much fun to watch as it is to ski down. Expert skiers (who are comfortable skiing steep terrain in the dark carrying fire) are invited to participate in the parade. Everyone is invited to enjoy the spectacle!

Gondi Gala Event
Time: 9pm – 1pm
Location: Couloir Restaurant

Join us on New Year’s Eve at the top of the gondola. The Couloir Restaurant plays host to Jackson’s Whiskey Mornin’ as they usher in the new year. The fun starts at 9:00pm. There is a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. The gondola will begin dowloading at the end of the party at 1:00am. Please dress warmly for the gondola ride. There is a coat check available. This is a high demand ticket, so get them early if you wish to attend. Event Link.

Shift Festival 2016

Held each October in the spectacular valley of Jackson Hole, SHIFT is an annual festival that celebrates the intersection of conservation with Nature (the natural environment), Culture (the built environment) and Adventure (outdoor recreation) across North America. The 2016 Festival will feature an in-depth exploration of the opportunities and challenges at the intersection of conservation and adventure, with a goal of leveraging outdoor recreation for conservation gains.

Fall Arts Festival 2016

The Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival has become one of the most widely recognized art events the Rockies. Each Fall thousands of art enthusiasts descend upon Jackson for this event. The 2016 Festival is scheduled to take place September 7th thru the 18th this year. The combination of art, music, and cuisine can overwhelm the senses.

Don’t miss out on this extravaganza! There are a number of events occurring throughout this 11 day period. Local galleries will have featured artists in-house throughout the festival. The Fall Arts Festival has grown into quite an event over the years. The complete 2016 Fall Arts Festival Program is online!

Wednesday the 7th the festival kicks off with the Western Design Conference Gala Event: Fashion and Jewelry Show.

Friday the 9th don’t miss the Palates and Paletes Gallery Walk, a local favorite. Palates and Palettes pairs local restaurants and caterers with galleries for an incredible social evening of fine cuisine, art and wine right downtown. A gallery walk like no other, downtown truly comes alive.

Sunday the 11th will feature the Taste of the Tetons. Valley chefs, restaurants, and caterers put their best culinary work on display for sampling. Each taste ticket is $1. Tastes generally range from two to four tickets. In addition to the open-air tasting fair, participants will enjoy “Pickin’ in the Park” live musical entertainment presented by the Howdy Pardners Ambassador Club. the 15th Annual Takin’ It to the Streets, a juried art fair featuring 40 local artists, and the Rotary Supper Club’s Wine Tasting and Silent Auction! Also on the 13th is the Takin’ it to the Streets event featuring 40 local artists.

Saturday the 17th the Quick Draw competition and auction is also quite popular, celebrating its 20th year as part of the annual Fall Arts Festival. The “Quick Draw” features nationally, regionally, and locally recognized artists who will demonstrate their skills at this unique alfresco event. One-of a-kind artwork will be auctioned off following the ninety minute creative process where spectators will watch artists paint and sculpt and create before your eyes. I truly enjoy this event, don’t miss out on this opportunity!

There is certainly no shortage of things to do while the Fall Arts Festival is in town!

Concerts on the Commons

Concerts on the Commons in Teton Village on Sunday evenings throughout the summer have developed into quite the night. Kicking off at 5pm and generally wrapping up around 9pm. The “Commons” area in Teton Village serves as an intimate outdoor concert venue at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The family friendly nature lends itself to a fun night out for the whole crew. There are a number of food and beverage options available. Many folks will make a picnic out of the event. Bring a blanket, stretch out on the lawn, and enjoy the show.

Nicole Miller Pop-Up-Shop

Nicole Miller will be hosting a 4-Day Pop-Up Shop featuring brand new styles from the Fall 2016 collection!

With a degree in fine arts from The Rhode Island School of Design and a degree from l’ École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture Parisienne in Paris, Nicole Miller combines her art training with couture technique. This, along with her French heritage, has given her a unique style and vision. Her irreverent style of clothing has been worn by celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Joss Stone, Jennifer Aniston, Beyoncé, Blake Lively and Eva Longoria among others.

Philanthropically minded, Nicole supports primarily environmental causes such as Waterkeeper and Rocky Mountain Institute as well as many children’s charities. When not designing, Nicole is an avid skier, wake-boarder, traveller, and foodie. She lives with her husband Kim and their son Palmer in New York City, spending weekends in Sag Harbor.

Teton County Fair 2016

The Teton County Fair signals the heart of Summer in Jackson Hole. The fair grounds will be humming with activity all week long making this possibly the most entertaining time to visit in Summer. Visitors to area will find all the usual fair delights; rides, 4-H displays, livestock, petting zoo, nightly entertainment. The nightly events including the rodeo, live music, pig wrestling, figure 8 races and more. Parking at the fairgrounds is $10.

There is a food court located inside the main fair grounds with all of your usual delights. I recommend not missing out on some local fixin’s over by the events tent. Located on Snow King Ave., the tent hosts talent shows etc. throughout the day, which provides some entertainment while dining. You will find a large grassy area with some picnic tables located near the “Big Top” events tent.

My favorite is the philly cheese steaks or cheeseburgers at the Rocky Mountain Ministries food booth.

A collection of rides and games can be found around the fair’s “midway” that are sure to thrill children and adults.

Figure 8 Races seem to be a big hit with locals and visitors. In years past the Demolition Derby was the Sunday night featured event. Soon after the introduction of of the Figure 8’s, it replaced the Derby.

This event combines the smash and crash of a derby with a little finese. Cars race around a figure 8 track where “rubbin’s racin’!” A fireworks display concludes the fair on Sunday evening. Come on out and enjoy our fair!

Steeldrivers…St. John’s Hospital Benefit

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of St. John’s Medical Center, St. John’s Hospital Foundation is hosting a birthday party open to the entire community on Sunday, July 31st at the Snow King Ballfield. Grammy Award-winning bluegrass band The SteelDrivers is headlining this free, family-friendly event to thank the community for supporting St. John’s Medical Center.

The St. John’s Hospital Foundation is thrilled to bring the 2016 Grammy Award-winning bluegrass band The SteelDrivers to Jackson. After winning a first-time Grammy award for the acclaimed #1 album The Muscle Shoals Recordings, The SteelDrivers are taking 2016 by storm. The group has played to numerous sold-out venues this spring.

“What better way to celebrate one of the community’s most important assets – St. John’s Medical Center – than with a community celebration and birthday party,” said John Goettler, Foundation president. “The Jackson Hole community has been incredibly supportive of St. John’s Medical Center since it was built 100 years ago. We are grateful for the commitment and financial support of our community donors, and this party is a chance for the Foundation to say thank you! We hope that everyone in the community will come and join the celebration.”

Festivities will begin at 4:00 pm with the Hootenanny Allstars, featuring several members of the Jackson Hole Hootenanny. Brent Moyer and Friends take the stage next, with special guest Nashville artist Mike Dowling on guitar. Rounding out the concert program is the Nashville-based band The SteelDrivers, which has been playing to sold-out audiences throughout the country. The music portions of the Centennial Celebration will be produced by Jackson Hole Live.

The Jackson Hole Hootenanny, itself a historic institution, goes back 50 years when Bill Briggs brought artists and musicians together under a bridge in Grand Teton National Park. In the 1990s, the Hoot (as most people call it) moved to Dornan’s Bar in Moose and showcases musicians every Monday night.

Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brent Moyer moved from Jackson Hole to Nashville in 1986, but makes a pilgrimage each year to reconnect with the Jackson music scene. Known to many as the Global Cowboy, which is also the name of his 2008 recording, Moyer has released a total of 13 albums.

Mike Dowling spent more than a decade in Nashville playing sessions, fronting his own band, and writing songs for artists that included Del McCoury, Kathy Mattea, and Emmylou Harris. His engaging voice, self-deprecating wit, and arsenal of elegant interpretations of old blues, swing, ragtime, and original tunes captured the hearts of acoustic music fans.

Complimentary activities at the celebration include birthday treats, face painting, hula hooping, Jackson Hole Public Art’s mobile studio, the strider bike park, giveaways, and tips for healthy living. Food trucks and beverage vendors will be available, as they are for Jackson Hole Live events.

Partners for the event include Jackson Hole Public Art, Friends of Pathways, and the Jackson Hole Recycling Center.

Thin Air Shakespeare 2016

“Taming of the Shrew” is this years feature for Thin Air Shakespeare. Running on July 9 & 10 and once again the following weekend, on July 15, 16 & 17, 2015. Showing at the Center for the Arts’ outdoor lawn venue. The lawn opens for seating at 6:30pm with the show commencing at 7:30pm. Bring a blanket and picnic dinner along to enjoy. Be sure to get there a little early to ensure you get a good spot. A bit of bug spray is recommended. The intimate space makes for fabulous viewing. The experience is wonderful, I look forward to this opportunity each Summer. The best part……it is free!!!

The director has put a wonderful twist/flavor into this version of Shakespeare’s classic.

Kicking off during the Summer of 2013, Thin Air Shakespeare is a community favorite. The setting is unique and the experience wonderful.

Head over Teton Pass to Grand Targhee for a weekend of music. The annual Targhee Fest boasts a strong line-up of quality musicians. Nestled high into the Tetons, Grand Targhee provides an intimate setting for music festivals. During the day you can hike, bike, frisbee golf or just laze around and wallow in the beauty of your surroundings. Music generally starts mid-day.

Annual Fete at Diehl gallery

Since its founding in 2001, Diehl Gallery has been a focal point in Jackson Hole’s art community—a place to celebrate and engage with the works of masters whose works are included in museum, public and private collections around the world. This July, Diehl Gallery brings you the 12th Annual Fête, a provocative exhibition of the newest works by 36 gallery artists. The collection will span an array of mediums including pastel, watercolor, charcoal, vintage maps, driftwood, mixed media, bronze and more. On July 7, come and meet members of the American Prairie Reserve staff and learn about the inspiring project while supporting amazing gallery artists. Diehl Gallery has donated thousands of dollars to community nonprofits in and around Jackson Hole. For the Fête, we are working with the American Prairie Reserve (APR) a non-profit organization committed to creating the largest prairie reserve in the Continental United States: 5% of proceeds will benefit American Prairie Reserve. July 4th 2015 will be a fun filled day in Jackson Hole, actually the 3rd & 4th look pretty good. There is a lot to keep you busy from sun up to sun down. Be prepared for the crowds. There tends to be more vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic than any other day in the valley. It is good to find a nice parking spot, try the public parking garage located on Millward, then set out by foot or by bike. There will be some congestion getting out of and around town after the fireworks display.

Town of Jackson July 4th

July 4:

7AM to 10:30AM Street Breakfast, on Center St, by the Town Square.

10:30AM Fourth of July Parade. The annual parade begins on Snow King Avenue from the Rodeo Grounds to Glenwood, continues on Broadway, and ends on Willow Street.

6PM Watch the shootout on the town square. If you haven’t seen it, this event is not to be missed.

8PM Check out the rodeo at the fairgrounds.

10PM Fireworks!!! Held at the base of Snow King Mountain. This annual event is put on by the Jaycees, and packs quite a punch.

Teton Village July 3rd and 4th

Teton Village will be celebrating “Red, White and 2!” The village will be hosting two nights of fireworks and fourth of July celebrations on July 3rd and 4th.

The fun will begin on July 3rd with live music at 8pm from Head for the Hills. Fireworks to follow at 10 pm.

On July 4, music starts up with the Jazz Foundation of JH at 4 PM and Grand Teton Music Festival’s Music in the Hole audio feed from 6 to 7:30 PM, followed by Calle Mambo at 8:00 PM, bringing a high-energy, Latin and Salsa music to the stage. Another round of fireworks follow, starting at 10:00 PM. Food & Beverage Vendors will be on site and picnics are welcome. Please leave your pets at home.

11th Annual Crawfish Boil

The Jackson Hole Crawfish Boil is a celebration of Louisiana tradition in the heart of the Tetons. Great music, great food, and even better people. This newer “Jackson Hole Tradition” is a favorite for many locals, especially our Southern born. There will be live music starting at 5:30pm, boiled crawfish with corn & potatoes, the best red beans-n-rice in the West provided by Sweetwater Restaurant. There will be yard games galore! Bring your lawn chairs, picnic blankets, and get ready to have one of the best days of the Summer with us! Celebrate Father’s Day in style!

Music will be by the Revivalists with opening act Sneaky Pete & the Secret Weapons

By far one of the most entertaining and laid back events to hit the Hole. Locals thoroughly enjoy this day of all ages entertainment. I look forward to this day each year, the food is delicious and the music line-up tends to be quite good. The original version started out being hosted at Cutty’s Bar and Grill, located across from Alberstons. After a number of years the Boil outgrew its digs and had to relocate to the Snow King Ballpark. The event is co-hosted with JacksonHoleLive!

35th Annual Old West Days

The Memorial Day Weekend in Jackson Hole Has a lot to offer. A full schedule of events keeps the town buzzing with activity. This year Jackson Hole with be celebrating the 35th Anniversary of “Old West Days.”

The Mountain Man Rendevous and Antler Rendevous are ongoing throughout the weekend at the Teton County Fairgrounds.

Don’t miss parade downtown on Saturday morning at 10am. There is a Brew Fest held on the town square on Saturday as well, which provides a good opportunity to sample some locally crafted beers.

Individual tokens are perfect for people who would like to swing in after the parade for a sample or two. There are special $10 and $20 packages for those who are planning to enjoy a larger variety of breweries. Commemorative mugs are $5. Grand Teton & Yellowstone Open

Spring is an adventurous time of year to visit the area. Weather can be unpredictable, but wildlife is on the move! The snowpack provides a beautiful contrast between the valley floor and the high peaks of the surrounding mountains. This year is the centennial for the National Parks System, come out, celebrate and enjoy these national treasures. Exploring Grand Teton and Yellowstone during the Spring months is a great time to be here. Before the Summer crowds hit, there are great dining deals to be had around Jackson. Wildlife viewing can be a much more natural experience than at busier times of year.

Yellowstone is currently open from Mammoth to Old Faithful; Madison to West Entrance; Norris to Canyon. The South Entrance is currently scheduled to open on May 13, 2016. The South entrance to Yellowstone National Park, which is the nearest to Jackson Hole, will soon be ready to accept visitors.

Grand Teton National Park is currently open from Moran to the South Entrance of Yellowstone; Moose to Taggart Lake Parking Area. The park’s interior roads are scheduled to open on May 1, 2016.

Most animals in the area will follow the receding snow line into the high country surrounding the valley. Elk in particular migrate in large number in and out of Yellowstone, wintering in and around the National Elk Refuge. You may see large numbers of animals still on the refuge or just a few stragglers, depending upon the snow depths and migration patterns.

Each Spring Grand Targhee Resort hosts a number of events towards the end of the season. The Spring Break Away is yet another growing project at the mountain. Lodging deals are available. Enjoy the relaxing resort environment of Grand Targhee and its fabulous terrain. Spring storms can bring ample snowfall. Awesome views of the Tetons and Spring corn await. Grand Targhee is a hidden gem in the Rockies. A lack of lift lines is one of the most appealing aspects of the resort. An average annual snowfall of 500″ guarantees coverage.

Snowcat skiing and snowboarding are also available at the resort, and well worth checking out.

The Met: Live in HD

The Grand Teton Music Festival in conjunction with the Center for the Arts host a number of performances from the Metroplitan Opera in NY. The Met: Live in HD series has been going for over eight seasons. The season kicks off October 15 with the live transmission of Il Travatore. There will be an Opening Night Reception prior to the broadcast on October 15th sponsored by Rendevous Bistro & Bistro Catering, show up early!

The season concludes on April 14th with Madama Butterfly. The series has gained tremendous popularity and has currently expanded to reach thousands of theaters in countries around the world.

The broadcasts take place at the Center for the Arts in downtown Jackson.

The current season will wrap up in April with Madama Butterfly. The mid-April showing of Madama Butterfly would be a perfect activity to get you out and about deep in the heart of Jackson’s “off-season.”

Snowmobile Hill Climb

The World Championship Snowmobile Hill Climb is held each March on Snow King Mountain. The race is put on by the Jackson Hole Snow Devils, a local snowmobiling organization. This event fills the town and attracts over 10,000 spectators throughout the course of the weekend. The race course rises nearly straight up from the base of Snow King. It is simply amazing that riders are able to pilot these machines up such a steep pitch.

It was not until the early 90’s that many sleds even had a chance of summiting the challenging course. With the advent of new technologies, since the mid nineties, it is truly a race versus a high point competition.

On Saturday at 7pm…Octane Addictions Freestyle Demo is a snowmobile jumping event at the Teton County Fairgrounds rodeo arena. Tickets are $20.

This event is sure to provide some high speed thrills and spills! The central viewing area and that corner of town in general tend to be pretty lively. If you have never seen something like this before, make some time to take in the hill climb. The racing heats up over the weekend with qualifying Saturday and the finals, “King of the Mountain,” on Sunday. Racing starts up early, around 8am, and generally lasts until 5p.m. or so.

Take the chairlift to the summit and back down to see the race from an entirely unique perspective. The views of the valley from the chairlift on a clear day are pretty spectacular as well. Should choose to walk down along the course, be prepared for a steep and potentially thrilling descent.

Book your lodging early as the town tends to get pretty full over the hill climb weekend. With the event being held in town, many properties are with walking distance of the hill climb. Utilize the S.T.A.R.T. bus to get around town. Don’t drink and drive, there tends to be a heavy police presence around the valley for this event.
