The Teton County Fair signals the heart of Summer in Jackson Hole. The fair grounds will be humming with activity all week long making this possibly the most entertaining time to visit in Summer. Visitors to area will find all the usual fair delights; rides, 4-H displays, livestock, petting zoo, nightly entertainment. The nightly events including the rodeo, live music, pig wrestling, figure 8 races and more. Parking at the fairgrounds is $10.
There is a food court located inside the main fair grounds with all of your usual delights. I recommend not missing out on some local fixin’s over by the events tent. Located on Snow King Ave., the tent hosts talent shows etc. throughout the day, which provides some entertainment while dining. You will find a large grassy area with some picnic tables located near the “Big Top” events tent.
My favorite is the philly cheese steaks or cheeseburgers at the Rocky Mountain Ministries food booth.
A collection of rides and games can be found around the fair’s “midway” that are sure to thrill children and adults.
Figure 8 Races seem to be a big hit with locals and visitors. In years past the Demolition Derby was the Sunday night featured event. Soon after the introduction of of the Figure 8’s, it replaced the Derby.
This event combines the smash and crash of a derby with a little finese. Cars race around a figure 8 track where “rubbin’s racin’!” A fireworks display concludes the fair on Sunday evening. Come on out and enjoy our fair!

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of St. John’s Medical Center, St. John’s Hospital Foundation is hosting a birthday party open to the entire community on Sunday, July 31st at the Snow King Ballfield. Grammy Award-winning bluegrass band The SteelDrivers is headlining this free, family-friendly event to thank the community for supporting St. John’s Medical Center.
The St. John’s Hospital Foundation is thrilled to bring the 2016 Grammy Award-winning bluegrass band The SteelDrivers to Jackson. After winning a first-time Grammy award for the acclaimed #1 album The Muscle Shoals Recordings, The SteelDrivers are taking 2016 by storm. The group has played to numerous sold-out venues this spring.
“What better way to celebrate one of the community’s most important assets – St. John’s Medical Center – than with a community celebration and birthday party,” said John Goettler, Foundation president. “The Jackson Hole community has been incredibly supportive of St. John’s Medical Center since it was built 100 years ago. We are grateful for the commitment and financial support of our community donors, and this party is a chance for the Foundation to say thank you! We hope that everyone in the community will come and join the celebration.”
Festivities will begin at 4:00 pm with the Hootenanny Allstars, featuring several members of the Jackson Hole Hootenanny. Brent Moyer and Friends take the stage next, with special guest Nashville artist Mike Dowling on guitar. Rounding out the concert program is the Nashville-based band The SteelDrivers, which has been playing to sold-out audiences throughout the country. The music portions of the Centennial Celebration will be produced by Jackson Hole Live.
The Jackson Hole Hootenanny, itself a historic institution, goes back 50 years when Bill Briggs brought artists and musicians together under a bridge in Grand Teton National Park. In the 1990s, the Hoot (as most people call it) moved to Dornan’s Bar in Moose and showcases musicians every Monday night.
Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brent Moyer moved from Jackson Hole to Nashville in 1986, but makes a pilgrimage each year to reconnect with the Jackson music scene. Known to many as the Global Cowboy, which is also the name of his 2008 recording, Moyer has released a total of 13 albums.
Mike Dowling spent more than a decade in Nashville playing sessions, fronting his own band, and writing songs for artists that included Del McCoury, Kathy Mattea, and Emmylou Harris. His engaging voice, self-deprecating wit, and arsenal of elegant interpretations of old blues, swing, ragtime, and original tunes captured the hearts of acoustic music fans.
Complimentary activities at the celebration include birthday treats, face painting, hula hooping, Jackson Hole Public Art’s mobile studio, the strider bike park, giveaways, and tips for healthy living. Food trucks and beverage vendors will be available, as they are for Jackson Hole Live events.
Partners for the event include Jackson Hole Public Art, Friends of Pathways, and the Jackson Hole Recycling Center.

“Taming of the Shrew” is this years feature for Thin Air Shakespeare. Running on July 9 & 10 and once again the following weekend, on July 15, 16 & 17, 2015. Showing at the Center for the Arts’ outdoor lawn venue. The lawn opens for seating at 6:30pm with the show commencing at 7:30pm. Bring a blanket and picnic dinner along to enjoy. Be sure to get there a little early to ensure you get a good spot. A bit of bug spray is recommended. The intimate space makes for fabulous viewing. The experience is wonderful, I look forward to this opportunity each Summer. The best part……it is free!!!
The director has put a wonderful twist/flavor into this version of Shakespeare’s classic.
Kicking off during the Summer of 2013, Thin Air Shakespeare is a community favorite. The setting is unique and the experience wonderful.

Head over Teton Pass to Grand Targhee for a weekend of music. The annual Targhee Fest boasts a strong line-up of quality musicians. Nestled high into the Tetons, Grand Targhee provides an intimate setting for music festivals. During the day you can hike, bike, frisbee golf or just laze around and wallow in the beauty of your surroundings. Music generally starts mid-day.

Since its founding in 2001, Diehl Gallery has been a focal point in Jackson Hole’s art community—a place to celebrate and engage with the works of masters whose works are included in museum, public and private collections around the world. This July, Diehl Gallery brings you the 12th Annual Fête, a provocative exhibition of the newest works by 36 gallery artists. The collection will span an array of mediums including pastel, watercolor, charcoal, vintage maps, driftwood, mixed media, bronze and more. On July 7, come and meet members of the American Prairie Reserve staff and learn about the inspiring project while supporting amazing gallery artists. Diehl Gallery has donated thousands of dollars to community nonprofits in and around Jackson Hole. July 4th 2015 will be a fun filled day in Jackson Hole, actually the 3rd & 4th look pretty good. There is a lot to keep you busy from sun up to sun down. Be prepared for the crowds. There tends to be more vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic than any other day in the valley. It is good to find a nice parking spot, try the public parking garage located on Millward, then set out by foot or by bike. There will be some congestion getting out of and around town after the fireworks display.

8PM Check out the rodeo at the fairgrounds.
10PM Fireworks!!! Held at the base of Snow King Mountain. This annual event is put on by the Jaycees, and packs quite a punch.
Teton Village July 3rd and 4th
Teton Village will be celebrating “Red, White and 2!” The village will be hosting two nights of fireworks and fourth of July celebrations on July 3rd and 4th.
The fun will begin on July 3rd with live music at 8pm from Head for the Hills. Fireworks to follow at 10 pm.
On July 4, music starts up with the Jazz Foundation of JH at 4 PM and Grand Teton Music Festival’s Music in the Hole audio feed from 6 to 7:30 PM, followed by Calle Mambo at 8:00 PM, bringing a high-energy, Latin and Salsa music to the stage. Another round of fireworks follow, starting at 10:00 PM. Food & Beverage Vendors will be on site and picnics are welcome. Please leave your pets at home.

The Jackson Hole Crawfish Boil is a celebration of Louisiana tradition in the heart of the Tetons. Great music, great food, and even better people. This newer “Jackson Hole Tradition” is a favorite for many locals, especially our Southern born. By far one of the most entertaining and laid back events to hit the Hole. Locals thoroughly enjoy this day of all ages entertainment. I look forward to this day each year, the food is delicious and the music line-up tends to be quite good. The original version started out being hosted at Cutty’s Bar and Grill, located across from Alberstons. After a number of years the Boil outgrew its digs and had to relocate to the Snow King Ballpark. The event is co-hosted with JacksonHoleLive!

The 38th annual rod run and car show put on by Eastern Idaho Early Iron Organization (E.I.E.I.O.) taking place on the grounds of The Virginian Lodge with a parade through the Town of Jackson on Saturday morning. Festivities begin Friday whenever you get here and conclude on Sunday morning with presentation of awards. Come and enjoy seeing exquisite rides from yesteryear a good time for the whole family.
The cars are generally on display off and on throughout the weekend on the Virginian’s lawn.

The Memorial Day Weekend in Jackson Hole Has a lot to offer. A full schedule of events keeps the town buzzing with activity. This year Jackson Hole with be celebrating the 35th Anniversary of “Old West Days.”
The Mountain Man Rendevous and Antler Rendevous are ongoing throughout the weekend at the Teton County Fairgrounds.
Don’t miss parade downtown on Saturday morning at 10am. There is a Brew Fest held on the town square on Saturday as well, which provides a good opportunity to sample some locally crafted beers.

Spring is an adventurous time of year to visit the area. Weather can be unpredictable, but wildlife is on the move! The snowpack provides a beautiful contrast between the valley floor and the high peaks of the surrounding mountains. This year is the centennial for the National Parks System, come out, celebrate and enjoy these national treasures. Exploring Grand Teton and Yellowstone during the Spring months is a great time to be here. Before the Summer crowds hit, there are great dining deals to be had around Jackson. Wildlife viewing can be a much more natural experience than at busier times of year.
Yellowstone is currently open from Mammoth to Old Faithful; Madison to West Entrance; Norris to Canyon. The South Entrance is currently scheduled to open on May 13, 2016. The South entrance to Yellowstone National Park, which is the nearest to Jackson Hole, will soon be ready to accept visitors.
Grand Teton National Park is currently open from Moran to the South Entrance of Yellowstone; Moose to Taggart Lake Parking Area. The park’s interior roads are scheduled to open on May 1, 2016.
Most animals in the area will follow the receding snow line into the high country surrounding the valley. Elk in particular migrate in large number in and out of Yellowstone, wintering in and around the National Elk Refuge. You may see large numbers of animals still on the refuge or just a few stragglers, depending upon the snow depths and migration patterns.

Each Spring Grand Targhee Resort hosts a number of events towards the end of the season. The Spring Break Away is yet another growing project at the mountain. Lodging deals are available. Enjoy the relaxing resort environment of Grand Targhee and its fabulous terrain. Spring storms can bring ample snowfall. Awesome views of the Tetons and Spring corn await. Grand Targhee is a hidden gem in the Rockies. A lack of lift lines is one of the most appealing aspects of the resort. An average annual snowfall of 500″ guarantees coverage.
Snowcat skiing and snowboarding are also available at the resort, and well worth checking out.
Temperatures tend to be mild and there are some great places to check out while in the area. Head to Wildlife Pizza & Brewery to sample local brews.
Experience the “quieter side” of the Tetons.

This annual event provides for a great afternoon of entertainment. The Pond Skim has been growing over the last few years, drawing more and spectators and participants. Food and beverages are available on site. This event tends to have a very festive and party like atmosphere that is fun for all ages. Many competitors dress in costumes and will do multiple skims through the pond. Participants are of all ages.
If you would like to participate you can easily sign up at Snow King Mountain. Don’t miss out on this ski town classic, its an annual right of Spring. The spills will no doubt end in some chills when crawling from the pond. Creative riding and some splashing of the crowd tends to add a little excitement for everyone. Competitors try to go backwards and do all sorts of tricks to the delight of the crowd.
The weekend’s Pond Skim signals the kick off the final week of lift served skiing for the season at Snow King Mountain. The World Championship Snowmobile Hill Climb moves onto the slope of the King for the following weekend, marking the end of the season for Snow King Mountain.
March 17th thru 20th, 2016
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort will be celebrating the season with a weekend of events with the Jackson Hole Rendevous Fest. Started over 10 years ago, this event has slowly gained momentum and now encompasses an entire weekend. Look for more to be added. Fireworks will follow the concerts.
This year is sure to be big with the Zac Brown Band playing on Saturday night. Crowd size estimates are in the area of 15-20,000 people, look out! It will be a busy weekend in town. Utilize public transportation and taxi services, the police will be out in force. Use your head, be wise and alert, stay out of trouble and don’t do anything stupid!

Formerly the know as the Jackson Hole Mountain Festival, this weekend promises to be fun filled. Past acts have included Michael Franti, Blues Traveler, O.A.R., G. Love and Special Sauce, Ozomatli, Mix Master Mike, and others.
March 5th-7th
The Dick’s Ditch Banked Slalom is an exhilerating twist on the traditional slalom. Course inspection begins on Friday. The format for the race weekend will hold qualifiers on Saturday and “winner-takes-all” on Sunday.
Dick’s Ditch Classic utilizes a natural ditch which winds its way down most of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The race event utilizes the ravine which runs through the middle portion of the mountain. “This “big mountain ditch” has huge banked walls with steep pitches and opportunities for plenty of air. The course’s natural terrain is “enhanced” with some manmade features providing an amazing venue for this ski and snowboard race. The event format, as the name implies, is that of a banked slalom. This race course changes a bit each year and is like nothing you’ve seen before.
This is a wild event which is sure to feature a few spills and some wild riding. Rollers, gaps, bumps and jumps are just a few of the sculpted features that keep racers on edge. The challenging course pushes racers physically and mentally.
Competition heats up over the weekend as racers become familiar with the course and conditions. There is prize money and awards up for grabs. This event attracts many of the area’s best all-around riders. Skiers and boarders look forward to this event each year as competition continually heats up.
As the event has matured over the years the course has become more exciting and refined. Doing some laps off of the Marmot Chair can provide some good viewing opportunities from the chair and along the course which snakes down the edge of Amphitheater. Be sure to take in some of the action over the weekend if you are out riding JHMR over the weekend.

Refuge winter naturalist will lead a birding excursion onto the National Elk Refuge. They will have binoculars and field guides to share, but guests are encouraged to bring their own supplies if available.
Participants should be appropriately dressed for the outing, which will include frequent stops. Participants will be in and out of the vehicle throughout the duration of the tour. Dress in warm layers. Do not miss out on this adventure.
Truly an opportunity to get out and see portions of the valley many would not have access to. The trip will include travel into areas of the Refuge generally closed to the public. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the naturalist reservation line at (307) 201-5406. Donations to the cause and guide gratuities are highly suggested.

New Year’s Eve in the Hole can be a fun one. Events start early with with torchlighht parades in Teton Village and in the town of Jackson. Fireworks follow. Restaurants throughout the valley are heavily booked. Live music is on many agendas and there are some good options out there. Jackson may not be as crazy as some other ski town, but it is sure to create some wild memories, enjoy your New Year!
Glow Worm Parade for Kids
Time: 5:30pm, kids meet at 4:50pm
Location: Teton Village, Teewinot Lift
This New Years’ tradition substitutes glow sticks for torch lights. Kids up to 14 years old who are comfortable skiing Teewinot, are welcome to participate. Meet at the Kids Ranch at 4:50, Parade on Teewinot Run at 5:30pm. Come dressed with skis and boots (no poles please). Younger kids will do a shorter parade before the older kids. Participation is free and sign up is not required. Parents are not required to accompany skiers. Call 307-739-2788 for more information.
Torch Light Parade at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

The traditional torchlight parade follows the glow worm parade and is on the Apres Vous side of the mountain resort. At the conclusion there will be a fireworks display in the base area of Teton Village.

An authentic torch light parade followed up by a fireworks display. A New Year’s Eve tradition in many ski towns, Jackson does it up too! This annual event kicks off the new year with a bang and is just as much fun to watch as it is to ski down. Expert skiers (who are comfortable skiing steep terrain in the dark carrying fire) are invited to participate in the parade. Everyone is invited to enjoy the spectacle!
Gondi Gala Event
Time: 9pm – 1pm
Location: Couloir Restaurant
Join us on New Year’s Eve at the top of the gondola. The Couloir Restaurant plays host to Jackson’s Whiskey Mornin’ as they usher in the new year. The fun starts at 9:00pm. There is a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. The gondola will begin dowloading at the end of the party at 1:00am. Please dress warmly for the gondola ride. There is a coat check available. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort opens for the 2015/2016 ski season. Riders are excited throughout the area to get in some lift served skiing on this side of the pass. Terrain will be limited, not unusual for this time of year. Snowmakers have been working hard, temperatures have been cooperative. Anticipate a quality mixed base of natural and manmade snow.
It is Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s 50th anniversary season this year, Friday the 27th will see throwback pricing…lift tickets will be $6…see you out there.
Grand Targhee Resort opened last weekend bringing lift served riding to Teton County. Reports were good, additional natural snowfall has only beefed up conditions for them.
Snow King Mountain will be hosting Nor-Am races on the 26th & 27th. The races will feature over 200 races from nine countries. They have been working hard on the race course, the new snowmaking system has been killing it for them. Stop by to check out some world class racers, the competition will be intense.
